Oriflame MLM Review: What You Need to Know About the Cosmetics-Based Company
When it comes to Oriflame, there are two things that are for sure: It’s a cosmetics company and it has an MLM business model. Oriflame was founded in 1967 by brothers Jonas and Robert Jochnick and Bengt Hellsten in Sweden, and today its headquarters are in Switzerland. If you’re interested in Oriflame as an MLM opportunity, you’ll want to read our comprehensive review. In this article, we’ll cover everything from Oriflame’s history to its products (including whether they’re any good), how you can join the company, its compensation plan, complaints and lawsuits against Oriflame, whether it’s legitimate or not, what we like about the company and what we don’t, and comparable MLM companies.
Oriflame’s history
Oriflame was founded in 1967 by brothers Jonas and Robert Jochnick and Bengt Hellsten in Sweden. The company started out as a way for the three men to sell Swedish natural cosmetics products to their friends. Oriflame soon began to grow and by 1974, it had become a multi-level marketing company. The company relocated headquarters to Switzerland in 2006. The company cited several reasons for relocating, including the fact that Switzerland is Oriflame’s second-largest market, it has a favorable business environment, and it’s centrally located in Europe.
Oriflame today is a global company with over 3 million consultants in over 60 countries.
What products does Oriflame sell?
Oriflame sells a wide range of cosmetics and beauty products, including skincare, makeup, fragrance, hair care, and body care products. The company also sells a few non-cosmetic products, such as Oriflame’s Swedish Perfection line of vitamins and supplements.
Some of its products:
- Oriflame Optimals Even Out Night Cream: A night cream that promises to even out skin tone and texture.
- Oriflame Giordani Gold Iconic Liquid Foundation: A foundation with SPF 15 that promises a natural, dewy finish.
- Oriflame The ONE Colour Unlimited Lipstick: A lipstick that Oriflame claims won’t dry out your lips.
- Oriflame Milk & Honey Gold Smoothing Sugar Scrub: A sugar scrub with milk and honey extract that promises to leave skin soft and smooth.
- Fragrance: Oriflame has a range of fragrance products for men and women, including Oriflame Eau de Parfum Spray, Oriflame Eau de Toilette Spray, and Oriflame Perfume Stick.
- Oriflame hair care products: Oriflame offers a range of shampoo, conditioner, hair treatment, and styling products.
- Oriflame body care products: Oriflame sells body lotions, creams, scrubs, and oils.
- Vitamins and supplements: Oriflame’s vitamins and supplements include Oriflame Swedish Perfection Vitamin C 1000, Oriflame Swedish Perfection Omega-Rich Super oil, and Oriflame Swedish Perfection Hair & Nails.
To Oriflame’s credit, the company does have a money-back satisfaction guarantee. Oriflame will refund your purchase price if you’re not satisfied with a product and return it within 30 days of receipt.
In terms of Oriflame’s actual products, we’ve found that they’re generally well-reviewed. Customers seem to like Oriflame’s products and many say they’re comparable to high-end brands but at a more affordable price point. Of course, as with any beauty product, everyone’s skin is different so what works for some may not work for others.
How does Oriflame work?
Oriflame works like most MLMs. You join Oriflame as a consultant and sell Oriflame products to earn commission on your sales. You can also earn money by recruiting other consultants to join Oriflame and building a team.
If you're interested in joining Oriflame, you can do so through one of the company's consultants. Oriflame does not allow direct sign-ups.
To become an Oriflame consultant, you must purchase a starter kit. The cost of the starter kit depends on your country but is typically around $30-$60. Oriflame also requires that you purchase a certain amount of product every month to stay active. This is called your monthly personal sales volume (PSV) and it's typically around $80-$100.
As an Oriflame consultant, you'll get your own Oriflame online store where customers can buy Oriflame products. You'll also get access to Oriflame training materials and support.
Oriflame has a tiered commission structure and you’ll earn a higher percentage of commission as you sell more Oriflame products and recruit more consultants.
Oriflame’s tiered commission structure:
- 20% commission on personal sales for consultants who sell less than $119 worth of Oriflame products per month.
- 22% commission on personal sales for consultants who sell $120-$239 worth of Oriflame products per month.
- 24% commission on personal sales for consultants who sell $240-$359 worth of Oriflame products per month.
- 26% commission on personal sales for consultants who sell $360 or more worth of Oriflame products per month.
- Up to an additional 12% commission on team sales.
Oriflame also has a few other bonuses and incentives, such as the Oriflame Dream Car Incentive, which allows you to earn a BMW or MINI Cooper by meeting certain sales targets.
Is Oriflame a legitimate MLM?
Oriflame is a legitimate MLM company but it’s not without its controversies. The company has been accused of being a pyramid scheme by some and has faced several lawsuits.
In 2010, Oriflame agreed to pay $12 million to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States that accused Oriflame of being a pyramid scheme. Oriflame did not admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
Oriflame has also been sued in India, China, and Turkey for allegedly running pyramid schemes. Oriflame has denied these allegations and the cases are still pending.
Oriflame is not a pyramid scheme. Oriflame sells actual products and has a money-back satisfaction guarantee. The company also has a tiered commission structure that allows you to earn more commission as you sell more Oriflame products and recruit more consultants.
Under a pyramid scheme, participants only make money by recruiting new participants. There’s no product and no way to earn commission other than through recruitment.
